Instructions to candidates

  1. Each candidate is required to prepare materials and make Parts 2, 3, 4 and 6, according to the materials list and drawings shown, prior to Friday 24th April, 2015.

  2. Prepared materials and finished components must be the candidate’s own individual work and should be clearly identified and safely stored until examination day.

  3. If you use machinery other than that specified in the equipment list, (below), to process any part of the examination material, you will lose marks under the relevant headings in the marking scheme.

Equipment List

Lathes.
Drilling machines.
Usual marking-out and measuring tools.
Usual bench fitting tools and equipment.
Height Gauge / Scribing block and Surface Plate (one per five candidates).
M4 and M5 taps (to suit machine screws) and suitable tapping wrench.
Tapping fluid.
Set of drills: Ø3.3, Ø4, Ø4.2, Ø4.5, Ø5.5, Ø6, with spares.
Countersinking drill.
Set of usual files, to include:

250 mm hand rough
250 mm hand smooth
250 mm half round rough
250 mm half round smooth
150 mm warding rough
150 mm hand rough
150 mm hand smooth
Set of needle files (one set per five candidates).

Junior and standard hacksaws with spare blades.
One pair of aluminium or fibre protective vice clamps per candidate.
Screwdriver and Allen Keys to suit machine screws supplied.
Spanners to suit the nuts supplied.
Half sheet of fine grade emery cloth per candidate.
Half sheet of medium grade emery cloth per candidate.
Number punches, or engraving equipment.
Light clear rust preventive aerosol spray.
Protective goggles at all machines.
